Serving the community since 1990.

Angelo has been a fixture in the Ukrainian Village for over 30 years. In 1990 he and his family moved from their original restaurant on Halsted St. to open Gyros Express on the corner of Damen and Augusta. While working part-time at the family restaurant, Angelo gained experience as a stylist on Oak Street. His passion for cutting hair, sparked by his uncle George who ran a famous Barbershop called “Zors” in Athens, Greece, led him to open up the first “Angelo’s” at 2007 W Augusta in 1991. For 15 years Angelo ran the salon, cutting hair, styling updos, coloring, etc.

Due to a death in the family, Angelo transitioned to running the family restaurant in 2006. Rebranding it to the Greek Corner, he was well known not just for his excellent customer service and good food but also for his perfectly styled hair. Playing his Bouzouki (the Greek guitar) between orders, he was dubbed the “Greek Elvis” by many in the community. Behind the scenes, Angelo still cut hair after hours; keeping up his craft and loyal customer base.

15 years after getting back into the busy, demanding and often stressful restaurant industry, Angelo decided to begin a new chapter. With the rush of life, the tragedies endured, the fast-paced lifestyle and the constant barrage of technology, he yearned for simpler times and an environment reminiscent of yesteryear. Inspired by the cars, architecture, class and barbershops of the 1920s and 30s, Angelo decided to take over his salon once more. This time creating a space that steps back in time, where gentlemen can go for a cut, unwind with a drink and forget about the chaos of modern life for a while.
